About us

Little Rock Equine Vets treats you and your horse as we would want to be treated.

Little Rock roundel

We have all been owned by horses from our childhood and into adulthood. This knowledge and understanding of what it is really like to be owned by “your horse of a lifetime” brings a special veterinary experience to you. Little Rock Equine Vets, are a small but very capable team, bringing a very personable and professional service to your door. Everything we do, can be done “stable side”. We also have early and late calls designed specifically with you in mind. This gives you the ability to look after your horse’s routine care without needing to take time out of your day for an appointment.

We want to help you get the best from your partnership with your horse or pony.  We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

They go above and beyond for the horses under their care and the support for owners is exemplary.

I have never met a veterinary team that is so dedicated to horse and owner welfare. I 1000% trust Shelleys word and she has never failed me yet through some very difficult times and calls. Outstanding vets whom deserve recognition for their commitment and dedication

Feel lucky to have these people as my horses vets. Their knowledge, kindness and support have been invaluable to me and my horse.

Little Rock Equine Vets go above and beyond. Nothing is to much trouble. They treat every horse that they care for as if they were their own. Customer service is outstanding. Little Rock really is an outstanding vet practice.

The team show great care for the horses and their humans! When my horse was unwell I was also out of action with covid, knowing that Shelly and her team were working with the yard owners to look after my boy was a great relief! Thank you!

As a farrier working alongside this up and coming vet practice has been a pleasure over the last 12 months, Amazing customer care and communication with myself on active remedial shoeing cases that I'm involved with, Also attending FARRIER FOCUS in 2021 to see new products on the market and watch farrier based lectures was very impressive.

Little Rock are a superb ambulatory practice. They are personable and attentive to your needs as an owner but more importantly the level of expertise and genuine heartfelt care that has been delivered to my ponies has been outstanding. The advice is concise and to the point and the aftercare is superb. It is also great to have a technician working alongside the vet when required, something that I have not come across before and something that was so greatly appreciated whilst my mare had an operation under general anesthetic at home. A simply brilliant practice that deserves recognition.

Bio

Hi I’m Shelley, I have been round horses all my life and wanted to be an equine vet from a very young age.

My parents were so concerned about my determination to be a horse vet, that they sent me to work alongside the family equine vet, in my spare time in order to put me off the idea.

This backfired spectacularly as it actually gave me a real insight into what the job entailed and made me even more determined to follow my dream. I love working with both horses and owners to help them achieve their dreams too. I am especially interested in sport horse medicine, surgery, sarcoids and geriatric medicine.

I am also owned by two spaniels (Eithin and Riley) and our two toddlers (Addy and Hedley). These four keep me busy with walks, playing “pooh sticks” and general chaos outside of work. My personal plan in the next 12 months is for my next horse to find me and get back out eventing and hopefully turn my hand to some team chasing.

I thought I would come up and see what Staffordshire had to offer and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the area, the people and the horses. I enjoy all aspects of equine practice but I do have special interests in reproduction and orthopedics.

I am often accompanied on my travels by my two co pilot spaniels, Jim and Dudley. In my spare time I can be found playing with my eight horses or renovating my house with my other half.

Before moving up to Staffordshire to work in a busy equine referral hospital. Now, armed with all I have learned, I am excited to get back out on the road to help your horses. I love all aspects of equine work, but I have a particular interest in internal medicine, especially foals, eyes, and hearts!

I have grown up around horses; every weekend of my teenage years was spent at showjumping competitions. I actually still own my first ever pony, China, who is enjoying her retirement in my parents’ garden!

When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me roaming the countryside with my overgrown puppy, Dino! He comes everywhere with me, so you’ll likely spot him riding shotgun in the van.

I’ve always worked in office/customer service roles so this is right up my street.

I have spoken to lots of you over the phone and I also look after the vets, organising everything to keep them busy out on the road so your horses are provided with a tip top service.

I oversee the office, Deb and Vikki who make up our team and keep things running smoothly. Along with the day to day running of the office I process the insurance claims, manage the diary and I’m the ‘go to’ person for all.

Outside of office life, I’m married to Kris who has learned to love the horsy way of life and we have three teenage daughters Abbie, Lily and Polly, who are also all into horses. We have Elvis, Kyzer, Abbey-Belle and Charlie that keep us very busy.

I have loved horses for as long as I can remember and come from a horse mad family so it was just built in. I have taught all my girls to ride and did lots of lead rein showing with them when they were little. As they have grown up each of them love to compete in different disciplines as well as just riding out together and enjoying our passion, our horses.

You may see me around and about with my odd selection of horses, ranging from a miniature shetland pony to sports horse stallion. I particularly enjoy eventing and have a passion also for breeding. I come from a horsey family and have studied my Bsc Equine Science, so it could be said that horses run through me (sometimes literally).
Besides horses and work, I also have a heavy sponsorship from my long suffering o/h Mark, who enables me to follow my passion. We also have 2 daughters who could not be any more opposite, an abundance of chickens, a few hairy doggos and the obligatory yard cat.
