About us

Little Rock Equine Vets treats you and your horse as we would want to be treated.

Little Rock roundel

We have all been owned by horses from our childhood and into adulthood. This knowledge and understanding of what it is really like to be owned by “your horse of a lifetime” brings a special veterinary experience to you. Little Rock Equine Vets, are a small but very capable team, bringing a very personable and professional service to your door. Everything we do, can be done “stable side”. We also have early and late calls designed specifically with you in mind. This gives you the ability to look after your horse’s routine care without needing to take time out of your day for an appointment.

We want to help you get the best from your partnership with your horse or pony.  We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

They go above and beyond for the horses under their care and the support for owners is exemplary.

I have never met a veterinary team that is so dedicated to horse and owner welfare. I 1000% trust Shelleys word and she has never failed me yet through some very difficult times and calls. Outstanding vets whom deserve recognition for their commitment and dedication

Feel lucky to have these people as my horses vets. Their knowledge, kindness and support have been invaluable to me and my horse.

Little Rock Equine Vets go above and beyond. Nothing is to much trouble. They treat every horse that they care for as if they were their own. Customer service is outstanding. Little Rock really is an outstanding vet practice.

The team show great care for the horses and their humans! When my horse was unwell I was also out of action with covid, knowing that Shelly and her team were working with the yard owners to look after my boy was a great relief! Thank you!

As a farrier working alongside this up and coming vet practice has been a pleasure over the last 12 months, Amazing customer care and communication with myself on active remedial shoeing cases that I'm involved with, Also attending FARRIER FOCUS in 2021 to see new products on the market and watch farrier based lectures was very impressive.

Little Rock are a superb ambulatory practice. They are personable and attentive to your needs as an owner but more importantly the level of expertise and genuine heartfelt care that has been delivered to my ponies has been outstanding. The advice is concise and to the point and the aftercare is superb. It is also great to have a technician working alongside the vet when required, something that I have not come across before and something that was so greatly appreciated whilst my mare had an operation under general anesthetic at home. A simply brilliant practice that deserves recognition.

Senior Vet

Bio

Hi I’m Shelley, I have been round horses all my life and wanted to be an equine vet from a very young age.

My parents were so concerned about my determination to be a horse vet, that they sent me to work alongside the family equine vet, in my spare time in order to put me off the idea.

This backfired spectacularly as it actually gave me a real insight into what the job entailed and made me even more determined to follow my dream. I love working with both horses and owners to help them achieve their dreams too. I am especially interested in sport horse medicine, surgery, sarcoids and geriatric medicine.

I am also owned by two spaniels (Eithin and Riley) and our two toddlers (Addy and Hedley). These four keep me busy with walks, playing “pooh sticks” and general chaos outside of work. My personal plan in the next 12 months is for my next horse to find me and get back out eventing and hopefully turn my hand to some team chasing.

I started out with an internship at the Equine Hospital at the Royal Veterinary College in London, and then moved up to Staffordshire to work as an equine vet on the road. I joined Little Rock Equine Vets in August 2023.

I really enjoy all aspects of equine practice, I love the variety and that every day is different. I have started a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice to support my development as an ambulatory vet!

Outside of work I enjoy walking Luna, my yellow labrador with Jamie, my better half. You’ll also find me training in my local Olympic Weightlifting Gym.

I have a background in the NHS and Manufacturing industry. I qualified as a Registered Nurse in the late 80’s and worked in the NHS for over 23 years in a variety of roles. When I left the NHS I had a complete career change and worked for a local major Manufacturing Company for over 13 years.

I had several ponies as a child and currently my youngest daughter and I have 2 ponies and 2 horses between us. The eldest is a Shetland 24yrs old and is my Daughters first Pony who is now helping my youngest Granddaughter get the pony bug

When the opportunity came up to work at Little Rock it was the perfect choice to combine one of my loves with work.

I live with my two children, pony mad Willow and not so pony mad Keiran. I have been a keen rider since I was a little girl and I currently loan a beautiful Welsh Section D mare called Poppy.

In my spare time, I have recently discovered recreational running and I train with Brough Park Running Club. You can often find me, on a Saturday morning doing a park run with Willow. I have even managed to convince a lot of non-runners at Little Rock Equine to join me in a half marathon next year.

Working alongside our fabulous Trudi, Heidi and Kat. I’ll be at the end of the phone for any insurance or account questions.

We have a variety of furry friends at home, including sheep, labradors – Mabel and Ethel, my daughters 2 ponies – Hunter and Maggie, my horse Lizzie and a not so furry fish called Clarence – oh and I have a husband too!

Alongside riding, I enjoy a number of extracurricular activities including, skiing, cricket and more…
